I once was a painter. Turned nurse, come embroideress.
More artists are turning to traditional craft materials in an attempt to reconnect with the handmade, “evidence of hand” perfectly imperfect work. The thread making marks similar to the way I once painted. Drawing with threads really. The process meditative and peaceful. The product invokes nostalgia and the safety of an ancestor’s home, generations past. Memorializing the visual information that floats in and out of our daily lives. Manic imaginary, slowed down, given a place of more permanence. Bringing a past “homemaker” media to modern day. Representing the flashes of google searches, accessible and excess information at a schizophrenic pace but with some celebration instead of the continual despair over where we are as a human race. Preemptive nostalgia of today. Some joy within the stuff of life, as imperfect as it may be.
